Senior Legal Billing Specialist - Client Accounts

  • Austin, TX

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity for an advanced legal billing professional to step into a high-impact, strategic individual contributor role with an elite, global professional services organization. Designed for a senior subject-matter expert rather than a traditional people manager, this position drives core operational excellence by managing top-tier billing portfolios, supporting multiple practice leaders, and ensuring seamless full-cycle execution across complex domestic and global client accounts. Serving as a key escalation point and internal consultant, the incoming lead will conduct gap analyses, refine operational workflows, mentor billing staff, and occasionally provide interim coverage during peak volume surges or leadership absences. This open mandate provides high visibility across executive leadership, global finance teams, and high-profile partner accounts—making it an outstanding platform for an expert biller seeking broad organizational influence without traditional supervisory overhead.

About the Company

Our client is one of the world’s leading international law firms, renowned for representing sophisticated global corporations, financial institutions, and market-shaping ventures. Operating at the intersection of business, law, and innovation, the firm maintains a collaborative, forward-thinking environment where strategic finance and accounting operations directly empower client success. With a culture built on excellence, continuous learning, and cross-functional integration, the firm continually invests in top talent and modern systems to maintain its position as a top-tier industry leader.

Location

This position is based out of the firm's Austin, TX office and operates under a hybrid working structure requiring three days per week onsite. The role may periodically require supporting workflows across different U.S. and international time zones to align with assigned practice groups or global client portfolios. Relocation assistance is available in accordance with organizational policies for eligible candidates.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a senior legal billing subject-matter expert and dynamic surge resource across multiple regional billing teams and practice leaders.
  • Manage high-volume, complex client portfolios encompassing both domestic and international billing structures, ensuring full-cycle compliance and billing integrity.
  • Analyze legal billing processes and operational gap areas to design customized training, process-flow diagrams, and mentoring frameworks for adjacent team members.
  • Review draft billing data for precision, oversee accrual updates based on client guidelines, and research and resolve electronic billing (e-Billing) rejections.
  • Collaborate directly with senior partners, international finance counterparts, and IT teams to troubleshoot complex accounts and execute cross-functional system enhancements.
  • Generate, update, and submit standardized LEDES files, custom client reporting, and Service Desk technical ticket resolutions.
  • Lead global client unified billing efforts, ensuring international fee submissions, budgets, and invoices remain fully aligned across foreign jurisdictions.
  • Serve as proxy support for regional managers during unplanned vacancies, extended absences, or periods of significantly increased volume.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of senior-level legal billing experience managing high-volume portfolios in a professional services or major legal environment.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Aderant Legal Billing software or a comparable enterprise legal management accounting platform.
  • Hands-on experience with major e-billing applications such as e-Hub or Bill Blast, alongside custom client e-billing portals.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including high proficiency in VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and complex data modeling.
  • Deep functional understanding of global unified billing, LEDES format requirements, accrual tracking, and multi-currency billing compliance.
The ideal candidate is an articulate, analytical, and highly organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Possessing polished communication skills and mature professional judgment, they excel at interfacing directly with senior partners and corporate stakeholders to resolve intricate accounting challenges. They combine deep technical billing precision with a consultative mindset, taking pride in serving as the go-to expert who can streamline workflows, coach colleagues, and elevate overall team performance.
